Well, besides fighting humidity problems, I usually am way too busy during the summer to do any building. This past year the busy time extended almost to Christmas and was more hectic than ever (guess we really DO have too many irons in the fire
). At any rate, Since the new year has arrived, I have made myself a committment to get started on something. I had generally decided on what I was going to build next, but I took a bit of time this afternoon to get a bit more specific. Figured that if I picked out the wood and set it aside, I would have no excuses.
I had already decided on cocobolo back and sides. I had a rather wild back set and sides with a good color match that I had cut early last summer.
The back is actually the outermost two slices from the fancy log I showed on another post. It is mostly rift cut with the grain going through at an angle of about 45 degrees. A bit closer to quarter at the center, and almost flat in a small part of the lower bout. Lots of wild curl
. But this log was almost totally dry even in the center when I cut it open, and these slices stayed stable even going through the normal seasonal humidty cycles here. I had hauled it around, left it in my truck for a week at a time, etc., figured that if it stood up to all that it would be OK 
. The sides are actually a better match than the photo shows, kinda poor light in the shop today.
This will by my standard small jumbo interpretation with a cutaway.
I plan to use one of my more even grained white spruce (Picea glauca) tops. The photo looks WAY too stripey. This is actually an almost uniform pure white color. I will probably use an ebony fingerboard and bridge, but I am toying with the idea of Honduran rosewood. I will use my typical bloodwood bindings with a flame maple and ebony lam.
I will use one of these bookmatched figured ebony peghead veneers, but I might match the outer edges rather than the outline shown (this photo looks way too dark, the figure is actually very pronounced).
This should be a fun one. I will keep you posted as things go. Probably won't get a good start for a couple of weeks, but then things may happen pretty fast
